In May Thursday Club members, families and friends of the 14 provisional debutantes enjoyed a fashion show and brunch at the La Cañada Thursday Club.
Three different ensembles were modeled by each of the 14 provisional debutantes showcasing their individual styles and personalities. From the 2024 debutante program, Olivia Cha and Sophia Barton described each model’s interests, hobbies and outfits. Music was provided by DJ Omega (Eric Grigorian) and chosen by each of the girls.
Fashion Show chairs Adena Asatoorian and Hilda Voskanian organized the Club’s 74-year-old tradition that prepares young women for lives of confidence, leadership and service. Since 1951, close to 800 young women have been through the Les Fleurettes Debutante Program.
Provisional debutantes are required to earn a total of 30 hours of volunteer service. The hours are divided between community service (within La Cañada), charitable service and cultural experiences. This year the 14 provisional debutantes volunteered at the PCY County Fair booth, YMCA Annual Breakfast, Descanso Gardens and the CCLCF Thanksgiving Turkey Trot and prepared holiday care packages and Valentine’s Day cards. They were a part of the Children’s Hospital fundraiser, the Club’s courtyard sale, and the organization Changing Lives Through Love. In addition, there have been visits to the Norton Simon Museum, Getty Museum, plays and choir concerts, a multicultural night, and more.
Each month the provisional debutantes meet at the Club to engage in personal development instruction. The presentations include personal and internet safety, finance and budgeting, public speaking, nutrition, time management skills, flower arranging, runway walking, formal makeup, waltz lessons and modern etiquette. It’s a busy 16 months culminating in a formal presentation at the Bal Blanc de Noël on Dec. 27 at the Pasadena Hilton Hotel.
An orientation meeting for mothers of sophomore girls interested in the program will be held on Wednesday, June 11 at 6 p.m. at the Thursday Club, 4400 Woodleigh Lane in La Cañada. No RSVP is necessary.
