On Wednesday night at about 9:36 p.m., Altadena Area California Highway Patrol units responded to a call concerning a traffic collision on the westbound Foothill (210) Freeway at the Pennsylvania Avenue exit.
Upon investigation officers found the driver, a male in his 20s, was driving his Honda Accord at a high rate of speed and, for reasons unknown, lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle continued off the roadway, collided with the curb edge, three wooden street signs and a metal traffic pole that was positioned within a dirt and vegetation area. When the vehicle traveled into the dirt area it propelled a rock into the windshield of another vehicle.
The driver of the Honda was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the vehicle that was struck by the rock did not report any injuries.
This collision is currently under investigation. At this time, it is unknown if drugs and/or alcohol were factors in this collision. The I-210 westbound Pennsylvania Avenue off-ramp was closed from about three hours.
