A Whirlwind Week

On Thursday last week, I was invited to a very special luncheon: the 70th anniversary of Las Candelas, a philanthropic organization that provides “volunteer service and financial assistance to improve the lives of children and youth in vulnerable situations and to support awareness of their mental health needs” (according to its website).

I’ve known many of these ladies for years – either through attending the Las Candelas annual fashion show or through other philanthropic organizations. Thursday’s lunch was held at the Oakmont Country Club and I was comfortable from the moment I walked in as I knew so many of the guests. In addition to catching up with many of them prior to lunch, it was so interesting hearing the reminiscences of some of the ladies who have been with Las Candelas for decades, not long after it was started. Amazing to think how far they’ve come!

On Saturday, Steve and I headed to the LA County Fair in Pomona. I hadn’t been there since our son Patrick (who is 41) was about 6 years old. We had so much fun walking around but let me tell you – we got in our steps! The Fairplex is huge and it felt like we walked it all.

Of course on Tuesday it was my birthday and there was plenty to go around of cake, lunch and dinner! I felt like the queen that I think I am. I found a box of some high-end See’s chocolates and a fun card on my car in the morning from my son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter, then walked into the office to find flowers and cake from our office manager Rachelle, then lunch at Pepe’s with my friend Amy then dinner with family. Yes – my pants are a little tighter, but it was worth it!

Makes me think birthdays should be more often than once a year…
