LA County Updates Its COVID-19 Numbers

 Los Angeles County Dept. of Public Health has confirmed 22 new deaths due to COVID-19 within LA County reported on June 1. This brings the deaths due to COVID-19 to 2,384.  

According to Public Health as of May 31, the City of Glendale has reported 83 deaths due to COVID-19, La Cañada Flintridge has remained at one death, Eagle Rock has reported 14 deaths, Sunland has reported 14 deaths and Tujunga has reported 11. In the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County, Altadena has reported five deaths and La Crescenta Montrose has continued to report one death.

Ninety-three percent of people who died had underlying health conditions. Of those who died, information about race and ethnicity is available for 2,200 people (99% of the cases reported by Public Health).

Upon further investigation, six cases reported earlier were not LA County residents.

As of today, 6,528 people who tested positive for COVID-19 (12% of positive cases) have been hospitalized at some point during their illness. There are 1,357 people who are currently hospitalized, 28% of these people are in the ICU and 18% are on ventilators. Testing capacity continues to increase in LA County, with testing results available for nearly 612,000 individuals and 8% of people testing positive.

There were 978 new positive cases of COVID-19 reported on June 1; this brings the total cases of COVID-19 in LA County to 55,968. Included in that number are 985 cases reported in Glendale, 51 reported in La Cañada, 184 in Eagle Rock, 12 in Shadow Hills, 160 in Sunland and 124 cases in Tujunga. In the unincorporated areas of LA County, Altadena has reported a total of 157 cases and La Crescenta/Montrose reported 32 cases.
