CV Chamber Speaker Series – A Discussion About Insurance
Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce invites the public, and specifically small businesses, to a discussion regarding insurance.
Gregg Inboden, local resident and vice president/commercial lines at Momentous Insurance Brokerage, will be addressing concerns and answering insurance questions tonight, Thursday, May 14 at 6 p.m. This presentation will be held on the campus of St. Luke’s of the Mountains Episcopal Church at Sadler Hall, 2563 Foothill Blvd.

CERT Program Returns to CV Station
Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station is hosting the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program. Both new and returning community members are invited to attend the CERT kickoff event on Saturday, May 16 from 9 a.m. to noon at Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station, 4554 Briggs Ave. in La Crescenta.
The CERT program provides valuable emergency preparedness training designed to help residents better protect themselves, their families and their neighborhoods during disasters and large-scale emergencies. Training topics include:
- Basic disaster medical aid
- Fire suppression and utility control
- Search and rescue techniques
- Disaster preparedness and organization
- Supporting first responder efforts during emergencies
In a major emergency, CERT training provides community members with practical skills and knowledge to assist others safely until help arrives.

SCE Holding Discussion on Wildfire Safety
The community is invited to take part in a virtual discussion on wildfire safety held by SCE on May 21 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Topics scheduled include: understanding why and when PSPS occurs, how to prepare for outages, available programs and services, getting support during an outage, identifying cost-saving strategies and enhancing emergency preparedness. There will be an opportunity for questions and feedback.

Flag Retirement Collection Events
Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) – Don José Verdugo Chapter will be collecting American flags for retirement during Memorial Day weekend. American flags needing to be retired can be brought to the Kiwanis French toast breakfast at La Cañada Memorial Park on Saturday, May 23 or to Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. at 8 a.m. where a commemoration ceremony will be held by the American Legion/VFW Post 288 La Crescenta. DAR members will be assisting at this ceremony, serving coffee and donut holes and collecting flags for retirement.
CV Sheriff’s Station to Host Community Academy
For those interested in learning more about the CV Sheriff’s Station, 4454 Briggs Ave., the station will be having a Community Academy from June 8 to July 13 on
Mondays from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station. This free six-week program provides residents with an inside look at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept. and the daily operations of the local station. Participants will hear presentations on topics including: patrol procedures, search and seizure law,
investigations and law enforcement operations, community policing and public safety
Participants will also: tour sheriff’s department facilities, participate in a patrol ride-along and meet station personnel and learn about specialized units.

Student Commissioner Apps Accepted
The City of Glendale Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission is accepting applications for student commissioners to serve a one-year term from October 2026 to October 2027. The deadline to apply is June 12.
Ex officio student commissioners are active, non-voting members of the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission. It is an opportunity for students to share their experience and expertise in recreation programs, human services, workforce programs and the development and maintenance of public parks, recreational facilities and open space. Input on the Commission will help ensure the continuation of Glendale’s high-caliber parks, recreation programs and services.
Qualifications:
- Must be a student
- Must reside in the City of Glendale
- Must be 25 years of age or younger and
- Must be available to meet in person on the third Monday of every month at 2:30 p.m.
