Monthly Off-Ramp Clean Up
The monthly clean up of the La Crescenta Avenue off-ramp of the 210 Freeway is this Saturday, May 12. Volunteers meet at 8:30 a.m. at the 2600 block of Altura Avenue.

Tickets Available for Prayer Breakfast
The 7th Annual Prayer breakfast is Saturday, May 12 at 9 a.m. at St. Luke’s of the Mountains. Tickets, which are available at the door, are $10 for adults, free admission for youth. Guest speaker is Supervisor Kathryn Barger.
St. Luke’s of the Mountains is locate at 2563 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta.

 

Social Media Topic of GCC Business Lecture
“The Impact of Social Media on Entrepreneurship and Small Business” will be presented today, Thursday, May 10 at 12:30 p.m. in the Glendale Community College auditorium as part of the Business Lecture Series.
The panel features Tracey McCormack, local sales manager at KTTV Fox 11 Los Angeles; entertainer and influencer Oscar Miranda; Danielle Erves, entrepreneur and social media professional for Erves Consulting; and Israel Nery, assistant district director for Lender Relations at SBA (Small Business Administration) Los Angeles. The moderator is Solange Rubio, campaign manager at Univision’s Creator Network.
An entrepreneur meet-and-greet will be held in front of the auditorium from 11 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.
The Business Lecture Series is designed to enhance the educational experience of GCC students and connect the college with the community. The lecture is free and open to students, the college community, business professionals and the public.
The college is located at 1500 N. Verdugo Road

 

Rosemont Preserve Habitat Restoration
Celebrate Mother’s Day weekend with at the Rosemont Preserve and help restore native habitat on Saturday, May 12 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Come and see the new trail and help remove some invasive plants and water the young trees. Learn about the biodiversity project on iNaturalist and learn how to become a citizen scientist.
Please bring water to drink, wear sturdy shoes, comfortable clothes and garden gloves (long pants and sleeves are recommended). Tools will be available.
The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, please park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. in La Crescenta, and then walk north two blocks to enter the Rosemont Preserve. Please bring water and wear sturdy shoes to walk the trail.

GCC Nursing Program Earns Honors
Glendale Community College’s (GCC) nursing program earned the California Community Colleges’ Strong Workforce Stars recognition at the Gold Star level for its success in improving student employment and wage outcomes through its innovative career education program.
Strong Workforce Stars is an annual recognition for career education programs, also known as career technical education, within the California Community Colleges system whose graduates show significant gains in factors important for advancing social mobility – a substantial increase in earnings, attainment of a living wage and a job closely matched with the field of study.
The 2018 Strong Workforce Stars were given to career education programs throughout the state in 12 industry sectors, based on earnings gains, living wage attainment, and employment in field of study.
