All the Votes are In – and Glendale’s 2017 Election is Finally Closed.

At the end of April the Glendale City Clerk’s office tallied up the remaining vote-by-mail and provisional ballots that were leftover from the tally earlier this month. According to Glendale’s Election Center, approximately 3,900 such ballots remained to be counted.

In the race for City Council, incumbents Ara J. Najarian and Zareh Sinanyan both held onto their seats, each coming in first and third overall respectively. Joining them is newcomer Vrej Agajanian. A mere 47 votes split the former talk show host and Sinanyan, each earning 9,551 and 9,504. Najarian led with 9,962.

The two open seats on the board of the Glendale Unified School District (GUSD) were filled by Greg Krikorian, who topped off the race for District B at 3,638 votes, and Shant Sahakian, who emerged the victor in the District D race with 2,254 votes. Armina Gharpetian in District C ran unopposed and held onto her seat, earning 3,830 votes.

Glendale Community College (GCC) trustees Ann Ransford and Armine Hacopian ran unopposed in their races for Districts 2 and 3. The former earned 4,294 votes, while the latter got 3,689. Yvette Vartanian Davis beat out her opponents in District 4 with 1,980 votes.

Glendale City Clerk Ardashes “Ardy” Kassakhian and City Treasurer Rafi Manoukian both ran for their seats unopposed. Each earned 15,347 and 14,703 respectively.

Measure L, which imposes term limits on councilmembers, passed by a wide margin: 16,707 in favor versus 2,965 against. Mayor Najarian was the sole City Council candidate who stated his opposition to the Measure. Once the Measure goes into effect, it will limit council members to no more than three consecutive terms in office – a total of 12 years.

The results were made official at Tuesday’s City Council meeting, where they were ratified and adopted.
