The Home Stretch?

So I was sitting down with my therapist (okay, a glass of cabernet) discussing the many upcoming events that I’m involved in. The Hometown Country Fair – a big one – was held at CV Park last Saturday and was it a fun day! Between the classic cars, the petting zoo, the dog parade, the pie-eating contest and, of course, seeing so many friends of CV Weekly and Prom Plus, the time flew by.

This weekend is another of my favorite annual events – the Taste of Montrose supporting Prom Plus! It’s on Sunday, May 5 (Cinco de Mayo) and is part of the Montrose Shopping Park’s festivities of Wags n Whiskers and Kids & Kritters along Honolulu Avenue. Tickets for Taste of Montrose are just $20 (available by stopping by the offices of CV Weekly – 3800 La Crescenta Ave. #206, visiting the Prom Plus website – www.promplus.org and clicking on “donate,” or on the day of the event at the Prom Plus booth located at the corner of Honolulu and Ocean View). Taste of Montrose is only from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. – barely enough time to sample all the fare offered! I hope to see you there.

On May 17 our youngest is getting married. His bride-to-be is a queen of organization – a good thing since he is in Georgia (this is the son who is in the Air Force) and has relied heavily on her expertise in planning this exquisite affair. I won’t be surprised if I am a little melancholy at the ceremony at the thought that the boy who once climbed onto my lap during dinner is going to be a married man; time, after all, does seem to pass by so fast.

The June calendar is filling quickly: trips planned include a Big Bear vacation getaway with my fellow Glendale Kiwanians and a Pismo beach weekend with my son and daughter-in-law. Before you know it, we’ll be getting ready for 4th of July!

Mixed in with all of these things are several community news items that CV Weekly will be keeping our eyes on: the search for a new captain for the CV Sheriff’s Station, proposed rate hikes at CV Water District and updates on the Sagebrush territory transfer are just a few of the things we know are coming down the pike.

And don’t forget the deadline for voting for The Finest is coming up. This is the opportunity for your voice to be heard in choosing the best in a variety of categories; everything from Finest restaurants to services are chosen by readers of CV Weekly. It’s an exciting time and the chance to vote ends tomorrow, Friday, May 3 at 11:59 p.m. So make sure to fill out the ballot on page 22 of this week’s paper (10 choices minimum must be made for ballots to be valid) or go online to www.cvweekly.com and click on Finest ballot.
