GUSD searches for new principal

By Mary O’KEEFE

Glendale Unified School District administrators invited parents and community members to a meeting at Crescenta Valley High School on Monday, April 26 to discuss their “wish list” for a new principal. Long time principal Linda Evans announced her retirement as of the end of the school year. Evans will actually be at the district office through November 2010 until her retirement takes affect. The audience on Monday voiced their wishes that the new principal would be open minded, promote academics while still supporting struggling students and continue the school’s high expectations and award winning status. Most also wanted a principal who either was from the Crescenta Valley area or at least was understanding of the unique qualities of the community including strong involvement through volunteerism. Administrators invite the public to share their opinions on important qualifications for the new principal. Contact Asst. Superintendent Dr. Richard Sheehan at dsheehan@gusd.net or Dr. John Garcia at human resources at jgarcia@gusd.net or call the district at (818) 241-3111. Send opinions early, the new principal is expected to be announced at the school board meeting on April 18.
