IN Brief

Unwanted Medication Drop Off
The semi-annual DEA Take Back is Saturday, April 26 from 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Local locations to drop off old, unused and unwanted medicines include CVS Montrose, Rite Aid La Crescenta and La Cañada and Glendale Community College Circle Drive.

This free and anonymous disposal of old, unused, unwanted medicine is an easy way residents can prevent prescription drug abuse. Do not bring “sharps” (lancets, needles, syringes); dispose of these at the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station at 4554 Briggs Ave. in La Crescenta where they are collected 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Get drugs out of your home and into the DEA’s incinerators.

Rosemont Preserve Guided Walk
All are invited on Saturday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for a presentation on California native plants from Roger Klemm, the “Guerilla Gardener.”

He has also been instrumental in creating the Native Plant Seed Lending Library at the La Crescenta Library. Learn about this exciting new program and how to get free native plant seeds.

The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. Please wear sturdy shoes and long pants. This event is open to members of the public, suitable for all ages, and completely free; no reservations required. In the event of rain, the tour will be canceled. Sorry, no pets, please.

CVCA Hosting Candidates’ Forum
The Crescenta Valley Community Assn. is holding a Glendale City Council candidates forum on Thursday, May 1 starting at 7 p.m. at the La Crescenta Library.

A special election to fill the last 10 months of Rafi Manoukian’s Glendale City Council term has been added to the June Primary ballot. Councilmember Manoukian was elected as city treasurer in 2013 and Frank Quintero was appointed to fill the slot until an election. Those who have recently moved are reminded to re-register; everyone eligible to vote in the election needs to learn about the candidates and issues, and vote on June 3.

Submit questions to wdweisman@yahoo.com or come to the forum and submit it from the audience.
