In Brief

Scammers Hit Area

The public is cautioned about a scam that is making the rounds. Teens have been soliciting homes in the area trying to sell discount cards for $20. Typically they state they are from CVHS and are raising money for a school program, but in actuality the school doesn’t support these programs. A teacher who lives in the area confirmed that he was approached at home by a teen pitching this program.

Residents should contact law enforcement if they are approached.

Clifton’s Cafeteria

At the next meeting of the Historical Society of the Crescenta Valley at the Center for Spiritual Living-La Crescenta, Edmond Clifton III will speak about his grandfather and the Clifton Cafeteria. His presentation is on Monday, April 17 at 7 p.m.

Clifton’s Cafeteria opened in downtown LA in 1931 with a whimsical design theme that was immediately successful. The cafeteria’s decor playfully mixed themes such as the deep forest or the South Seas islands into a Disneyland-like eating experience. Its founder Clifford Clinton was a political crusader, cleaning up corruption in city politics. This is the history of the most popular restaurant in LA and its dynamic and egalitarian owner.

The Center for Spiritual Living is located at 4845 Dunsmore Ave., La Crescenta. The presentation is free and all are welcome.
