Celebrating Post Anniversary

The American Legion Post 288 will celebrate its 95th anniversary at the monthly veterans breakfast on Saturday, April 13.

A special post card has been mailed out to Post members to encourage attendance to the breakfast by all
members for this special event. Veterans and families are invited.  Those who may
know veterans who are not members of the Post are invited to bring them along for a hot breakfast.

Breakfast will be served from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the American Legion Memorial Hall, 4011 La Crescenta Ave.

 

Preparing for Disaster

A free community disaster preparedness forum is being held today, Thursday, April 11 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the La Crescenta Library community room. Among the topics covered will be how organizations and businesses can prepare for a major emergency. The forum is suitable for all types of businesses and organizations.

The La Crescenta Library community room is located upstairs at 2809 Foothill Blvd.

 

Fundraiser for Fire House

On Friday, April 12, the Crescenta-Cañada Lions Club will host its second annual fundraiser to support The Fire House Youth Center, located on the grounds of St. Luke’s of the Mountains Episcopal Church. The event will run from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and will be open to the entire community. This year, music will be provided by the award-winning Crescenta Valley High School jazz band.

St. Luke’s Episcopal Church is located at 2563 Foothill Blvd., La Crescenta. A $15 donation for The Fire House Youth Center is requested. All event proceeds will go to the Youth Center. Off-ramp Cleanup

The monthly cleanup of the La Crescenta Avenue 210 freeway off-ramp is Saturday, April 13. Volunteers meet at the 2700 block of Altura Avenue at 8:30 a.m. for instructions, safety vests and tools.

 

Rosemont Preserve Restoration Day

All are invited to the Rosemont Preserve on Saturday, April 13 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. to help protect the natural habitat. Volunteers will be removing non-native plants and cleaning up the trails for upcoming field trips. Invasive plants displace native species, degrade habitat and alter ecosystems. 

Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes, comfortable clothes and garden gloves (long pants and sleeves are recommended). Tools will be available.

The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, please park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave.

This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages, no reservations required.  Rain cancels event. Sorry, no pets please.

Special Olympics Competition

Special Olympics Glendale Games qualifying events take place on Saturday, April 13 at the Crescenta Valley High School field. “Fans in the stands” are needed to cheer on the hundreds of athletes competing in a variety of games. Opening ceremony begins at 9 a.m.
