Updated Numbers from Los Angeles County Dept. of Public Health

The Los Angeles County Dept. of Public Health has confirmed 29 new deaths and 620 new cases of COVID-19. That brings to date 7,530 cases across LA County including 198 total deaths. As of April 8, 1,714 people tested positive for COVID-19; of those, 23% have been hospitalized at some point during their illness. Testing capacity continues to increase in LA County, with over 36,000 individuals tested and 15% of people testing positive, according to LA County Public Health.

“Our hearts go out to every family who has experienced loss related to this COVID-19 pandemic,” said Barbara Ferrer, PhD, MPH, MEd, director of Public Health. “I want to acknowledge that for many residents, this week represents some of the holiest days of your faith traditions and the inability to fellowship in familiar ways makes celebrating this year particularly difficult. We are grateful to all the accommodations being made to allow people to connect spiritually, while remaining physically distant.”

The City of Glendale has 166 reported cases of COVID-19, 16 cases in La Cañada Flintridge, 29 cases in Eagle Rock, 26 in Sun Valley and 13 cases in Tujunga. In the unincorporated area of LA County, Angeles National Forest continues to be at zero cases and 10 cases reported in La Crescenta/Montrose.

At USC Verdugo Hills Hospital, there are 10 patients with confirmed COVID-19 currently in the hospital, 17 were sent home and 14 patients were transferred. There were 29 patients who tested negative for COVID-19 in the hospital, 145 were sent home and three were transferred. There are eight patients with pending COVID-19 tests who are currently in the hospital and five were sent home.

LA County Sheriffs Dept. has begun to release COVID-19 cases affecting employees on a daily basis. As of April 8, there were 405 employees quarantined, 25 have tested positive and 150 are back at work.

According to the LASD website, custody environment affected by COVID-19 states 372 people are quarantined, three have tested positive and 14 are in isolation.

Isolation, according to LASD, is defined as individuals who have a temperature of 100.4-degree Fahrenheit or higher and are exhibiting symptoms of an upper respiratory infection. All inmates in isolation/under observation have been tested and Correctional Health Services is awaiting results. Since the start of this pandemic, there have been a total of four inmates who have tested positive for COVID-19. One inmate has fully recovered and symptom free for 72 hours in accordance with CDC guidelines; the remaining three inmates are currently in isolation and under medical observation.
