Four cadets from the Crescenta Valley High School Air Force ROTC have placed first in the 24th Annual Southern California Invitational Drill Meet (SCIDM) which was held on March 15 in Redondo Beach.
The competition included high school and college Air Force ROTC teams from numerous western states. Specifically, four of CVHS six honor guard (elite color guard) members, Eric Stepanian, Andrea Locicero, Brandon Kim and Alan Lee, all 11th graders, placed first out of 12 competing Junior ROTCs in the Four-Man Color Guard competition (senior ROTCs from the colleges competed in separate categories).
Considering the number of public color guard events the drill and ceremony students annually conduct, entering this part of the completion was a logical decision, according to Lt. Col. David Worley, mentor/teacher of the JROTC at CVHS.
This is the first time in 10 years that CVHS JROTC has entered a team in the competition, and the hard work by these students definitely paid off, he added.
“Sgt. Melton and I are extremely proud of what these fine individuals accomplished, and if you see them, please congratulate them for a job well done,” he said.
