Man Arrested for Possession of Loaded Firearms During Traffic Stop

On Sunday at about 3:36 a.m., Glendale officers stopped a vehicle at Foothill Boulevard and Boston Avenue for speeding and equipment violations. The officers approached the vehicle and saw that the driver, later identified as Michael Shakhgeldyan, 30, of Sylmar was sitting on a firearm with the grip exposed. Shakhgeldyan was detained and a subsequent search of the vehicle revealed two loaded firearms. A Sig Sauer P938 9mm with seven rounds in the magazine was located on the driver’s seat and a Kimber Custom Pro 1911 45mm with seven rounds in the magazine was located under the driver’s seat.

A further search of the vehicle revealed $2,243.00 in cash, prescription medication, two digital scales, ammunition and individually packed narcotics which appeared to be heroin, methamphetamine, LSD and cocaine.

Shakhgeldyan was placed under arrest and booked for possession of a controlled substance while armed, possession of a controlled substance for sale, transporting a controlled substance and possession for sale of prescription sedatives or controlled substance.
