1000 block of El Vago Street in La Cañada, two vehicles, a Tesla and BMW, were vandalized with graffiti while parked at the location. The driveway was also damaged with the same words/graffiti. There was a typed letter taped to the windshield of the Tesla. The graffiti and letter were not of a threatening nature but referred to a recent article that appeared in a La Cañada newspaper written by the victim that reflected La Cañada High School students in a negative way. There are security footage cameras in the area that detectives are reviewing.
The vandalism occurred overnight.
Feb. 28
5100 block of Crown Avenue in La Cañada, a computer and monitor were stolen from an unlocked vehicle. Security footage revealed a suspect opening the car door and getting into the vehicle. The suspect later got out of the vehicle carrying a bag and walked out of sight. The suspect was described as wearing a white hooded jacket and appeared to be wearing gloves. The suspect’s face was covered with white fabric material.
The theft occurred at 4:57 a.m.
500 block of Foothill Boulevard in La Cañada, an employee reported witnessing two suspects at the self checkout stand, one described as a male Hispanic, about 40 years old, 5’10” tall and weighing about 160 pounds. The second suspect was described as a female Hispanic, about 40 years old, 5’7” tall and weighing about 180 pounds. The witness reported seeing the two suspects pay for four items but had many more items in their cart. The employee followed the suspects out to the parking lot and observed them getting into a white SUV. Another witness noticed the employee attempting to make contact with the suspects and was able to get more information regarding their identity. After reviewing a copy of the items purchased, the employee confirmed more items were taken by the suspects than was paid for.
The theft occurred at 11:05 p.m.
Feb. 25
2200 block of Foothill Boulevard in La Cañada, an employee returned to his business and discovered two large holes in the ceiling’s drywall directly over the counter where the cash register is kept. He noticed the cigarette storage cases in the business were almost empty. After further investigation he found that a laptop computer, cash box, and other items, including lottery tickets, had been stolen.
The theft occurred overnight.
2800 block of Harmony Place in La Crescenta, the interior of an unlocked vehicle was ransacked and some cash was stolen overnight.
900 block of Foothill Boulevard in La Cañada, the owner of a business reported being contacted by the store manager who informed him that while he was working he heard the backdoor emergency alarm activate. Surveillance footage showed a male described as white, wearing a blue jacket and white visor, enter the front entrance of the store and walk directly to the vitamins aisle. The suspect began selecting numerous bottles of vitamins and placing them inside a basket. He then walked over to another aisle, grabbed a box of cereal and placed the box over the vitamins in an apparent attempt to cover them, but then put the box back on the shelf.
He then left the store without attempting to pay at 8:15 p.m.
1900 block of Foothill Boulevard in La Cañada, a woman put her black sweatshirt on a coat rack in the gym at the location. After her workout she went to get her sweatshirt and found it was missing. The security footage has yet to be viewed.
The theft occurred between 7:50 a.m. and 9 a.m.
Feb. 24
520 block of Stardust Road in La Cañada, a resident reported that she had locked the front door of her home on Feb. 24. The entrance is rarely used and she did not check it again until Feb. 26 when she discovered pieces of wood and paint from the door on the floor. The door was difficult to open due to damage. The resident also noticed that two gates leading to her yard that are normally closed were open. Deputies found a pry tool at the location that was apparently used to pry open the door latch.
Nothing was reported missing. The incident occurred between Feb. 24 and Feb. 26.
Feb. 9
500 block of Foothill Boulevard in La Cañada, an employee of a store reported finding 16 security bottle top locks from liquor bottles hidden behind several bags of chips. Security footage showed Suspect No. 1, described as male, black with long dark braided hair and Suspect No. 2, described as female, white with short red hair. Both suspects were placing numerous bottles of liquor into a shopping cart. The two then pushed the cart out of the store without attempting to pay.
The theft occurred between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.
