Off-ramp Cleanup

The monthly cleanup of the La Crescenta Avenue 210 Freeway off-ramp is Saturday, Feb. 9. Volunteers meet at the 2700 block of Altura Avenue at 8:30 a.m. for instructions, safety vests and tools.

Veterans Host Monthly Breakfast

Local veterans host a monthly breakfast at the Verdugo Hills Memorial Hall on the second

Saturday of the month. The breakfast is free to all local veterans and supporters, but donations are always graciously accepted. This month’s breakfast is on Saturday, Feb. 9 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

The Hall is located at 4011 La Crescenta Ave.

Rosemont Preserve Restoration Day

All are invited on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. to help protect the natural habitat at the Rosemont Preserve. Volunteers will be removing non-native plants, cleaning up the trails and watering trees.

Participants should wear sturdy shoes, comfortable clothes and garden gloves (long pants and sleeves are recommended). Tools will be available.

The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. in La Crescenta.

This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages; no reservations required. Rain cancels event. Sorry, no pets please.

Stopping Senior Scams

Sen. Anthony Portantino and the La Crescenta Woman’s Club are hosting a presentation by Stop Senior Scams. Stop Senior Scams is an educational program for seniors that uses actors to educate older adults and the community about the prevention of scams. Members of the troupe aged 65 to 100 act out skits based on real life experience.

The presentation is free to attend. It is on Wednesday, Feb. 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the La Crescenta Woman’s Club, 4004 La Crescenta Ave. For more information and to RSVP, contact Vickere Murphy at

Pre-Smart Mixer

The CV Chamber will be holding its annual pre-Smart mixer at Bob Smith Toyota on Wednesday, Feb. 13 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in their beautiful showroom. As always, there will be a raffle with assorted gift items as well as a CV Chamber member drawing for a jackpot that is now worth $375 … but you must be present to win. This networking mixer raises awareness ahead of the annual Smart-A-Thon taking place at USC-VHH on Wednesday, March 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Chamber members and non-members invited! Admission fee to the pre-Smart mixer is $10 for chamber members, $15 for non-members. Fun guaranteed!
