Game Time!

Steve and I typically don’t sit down to watch sports. I often kid that when he first proposed to me, I asked him if he liked sports and did his father have hair. He answered no and yes respectively so I married him.

But on Sunday, with an invitation to watch the “big game” at the Finkelbergs in Glendale, I couldn’t wait to head over. Their beautiful home is perched on the side of a mountain and, with three TVs scattered throughout the house, there wasn’t a bad seat to watch the Patriots take on the Rams. Instead of watching TV, those so inclined could take in a stellar view while enjoying a potluck that offered every type of finger food imaginable – no one was going home hungry. To top it off, many of the 75-plus guests were members of the Kiwanis Club of Glendale – a club I joined not too long ago. Though the game was a bit of a yawn (“weak” was how one of my boys described it), I’m glad I went.

But on this upcoming Saturday is another game – one I’m much more interested in taking part in. I’m talking, of course, about bingo!

Bingo benefiting Prom Plus is this Saturday, Feb. 9, at the American Legion Hall (4011 La Crescenta Ave.). Doors open at 5 p.m. with the first game being called at 6 p.m. Tickets are just $15 for 40 – yes, 40 – chances to win a share of 10 $100 pots. Oh, wait; there are nine $100 pots. The 10th is a big one – 300 bucks donated by USC Verdugo Hills Hospital. In fact, all of the pots – including those for the extra “big chip” games – were donated by local individuals and businesses that recognize the importance of Prom Plus and want to make sure this event continues for our CV High School seniors and their guests.

And for those who just can’t get enough bingo, the CV Chamber is getting their cards and daubers ready for its big game on Feb. 23 at USC-VHH. Tickets ($20) are available at the chamber office.

Mark your calendars now and plan to support these local, community-driven organizations while taking a chance at winning some money.

Just a heads up that in next week’s paper we’ll be continuing our coverage of the ongoing Sagebrush issue with our interview with LCUSD Superintendent Wendy Sinnette.
