At the Jan. 29 Special Board Meeting, the Glendale Unified School District board of education took action by a vote of 3-2 to release Superintendent Dr. Winfred B. Roberson Jr. from his existing contract without cause, effective immediately, pursuant to contract paragraph 11(c).
Dr. Kelly King will act as interim superintendent while the board of education searches for a permanent superintendent. Dr. King has spent her 28-year career with GUSD, beginning as a teacher in 1990 and most recently serving as assistant superintendent of Educational Services.
“GUSD is an exceptional school district. My fellow board members and I are proud of the hard work of our dedicated administrators, teachers, and staff, and confident about the positive direction in which our district is heading,” said GUSD board President Greg Krikorian. “The board of education is committed to rallying behind our district staff and community. Our team will assist with a smooth transition and keep the district focused on the important work of educating our students.”
“My level of confidence in this district is unparalleled. We will continue to focus on what is best for our students and provide our usual high level of service to our community throughout this transition,” said Interim Superintendent Dr. Kelly King.
The board of education has a plan to move the district forward with new leadership. It will discuss the search process for a new superintendent at its upcoming meeting on Feb. 5. Once finalized, the district will share the search process details with all GUSD stakeholders.
