On Dec. 30 at approximately 2:30 p.m., officers assigned to Glendale Police Dept.’s Downtown Policing Unit received a call from a business at the Galleria Shopping Mall reporting that a male was removing security sensors from merchandise.
The male, identified as 31-year-old Jonathan Steele of Lancaster, was seen concealing items after removing the security sensors and leaving the store without paying for the items.
Officers attempted to detain Steele, but he continued walking away. Officers ultimately caught up with Steele and placed him in handcuffs; upon doing so, a Taser fell out of his jacket pocket. Steele was also found to be in possession of a baggy of what resembled heroin, car keys and a tool used to remove retail security sensors.
During the contact officers discovered that Steele was on probation and had a warrant out for his arrest.
Officers located the vehicle associated with the car key that Steele had in his possession and discovered that it had been reported stolen; inside of the vehicle officers located bolt cutters, a rotary cutter and other miscellaneous tools, and four different license plates.
Steele was subsequently arrested and booked for vehicle theft, petty theft, possession of stolen property, possessing narcotic(s), and possessing a Taser while on probation.
