Fraternity Suspended Following Death of CVHS Graduate

By Mary O’KEEFE

A fraternity is under suspension following the death on Saturday of a Crescenta Valley High School graduate.

City of Irvine police and the Orange County fire authorities responded to a call at 9:42 a.m. on Saturday. The victim, Noah Domingo, 18, was found at a home, off campus, near Turtlerock Drive, said Kim Mohr, Irvine police spokeswoman.

“The [victim] was not transported; he was pronounced dead at the scene,” Mohr said.

It appeared Domingo was at a fraternity party; this was rush week for the Greek community. Mohr added there appeared to be an association with a fraternity at the house where Noah was found.

UCI responded to the death by suspending a fraternity during the investigation.

Interim Vice Chancellor, Student Affairs at UCI shared a message with students stating that although “details of the incident cannot be shared because it is an active investigation, we have placed the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity on interim suspension.”

The message continued, “Over the course of the next few days and weeks, we will be working with the Greek community at UCI to provide support to affected members. We will also closely examine the larger context in which this tragedy occurred and will be working with the Greek community to help ensure that they are engaging in behaviors and practices that are in alignment with university policies and their own values.”

Mohr said there are several witnesses who police are interviewing and have interviewed as the investigation is ongoing. OC Coroner is conducting the autopsy today, Monday, Jan. 14. The results are not expected to be released for several weeks.

UCI is conducting its own investigation as well.

“Noah was such a wonderful young man. The basketball team got together today at snack to remember him. He played football and basketball, and was beloved by faculty and students. His loss is being felt acutely,” said CVHS Principal Linda Junge.

The family is sharing information regarding memorial services: Visitation and viewing is on Jan. 17 from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Glendale Funeral Home, 511 S. Central Ave., Glendale. Funeral service and burial will be on Jan. 18 at 9 a.m. at the Old North Church, Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles.
