Marie Martin welcomed baby Rachel Grace Martin as the first baby of 2019 born at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital. Rachel arrived on Jan. 2 at 4:19 p.m. and weighed 6 lbs., 1 oz. She will be joined at home by dad, Ryan, and two big sisters. The Martin family is from La Crescenta.

The winners of the hospital’s baby guess contest are Vince Takas, who was closest to the time of birth with a guess of 3 p.m., and Christine Pietrosh McDowell who guessed the exact weight of Rachel.

The Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce and participating businesses Dream Dinners La Crescenta, YMCA of the Foothills, Merle Norman Cosmetics, J’s Maids, Once Upon a Time Bookstore, Sue & Mary’s Hallmark, Wells Fargo Montrose and Wellness Works contributed to a welcome home basket of goodies that the Martin family was provided before leaving the hospital.
