Two suspects were arrested on burglary charges on Monday after Los Angeles County Sheriff deputies from the Crescenta Valley Station responded to a call concerning a possible burglary in a La Crescenta neighborhood.

“We received a call at the Crescenta Valley Station of a possible burglary [in progress] in the 3100 block of Abella Street,” said Sgt. Rudy Sanchez, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Dept. Crescenta Valley Station.

At about 1 p.m. the station received a call from a witness stating she witnessed two men prying the screen from the front window of a neighbor’s home. One suspect, later identified as a 33-year-old Montrose man, crawled through the window, then moments later the front door to the home opened and the second suspect, later identified as a 34-year-old Montrose man, entered. The two later exited the home, replaced the screen and then entered the home again, according to the witness.

The witnesses did not see the suspects exit the home. At about 2 p.m. the resident of the home arrived at the location and reported a laptop computer appeared to be missing.

A few minutes later a resident on Prospect Avenue contacted the CV Sheriff’s Station stating he had found a laptop computer in his yard.

The sheriffs had received information the suspects were in the area of Ramsdell and Montrose avenues, specifically two homes on the south side of the street where witnesses had observed the two suspects matching the description given by witnesses concerning the burglary.

Sheriffs cleared one of the residences and were in the process of clearing the other home when they found two men sitting on the porch that was hidden from the street by trees. The men allegedly matched the description of the suspects. The resident of the home knew neither man.

The resident, who was visibly shaken, said she had been napping. When she woke up and looked out her front window, she noticed two strangers on her porch. Then deputies arrived.

A witness identified the two suspects in the field. The burglary victim recognized one of the men. He apparently had been at the residence the week prior; her boyfriend had asked him to leave. The suspect was an old school acquaintance.

The men were taken to CV Station to be booked. The 33-year-old man is being held on $50,000 bail, the 34-year-old man is held on $150,000 bail. Both men were in court on Wednesday; no other information was available at press time.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the CV Sheriff’s Station at (818) 248-3464.
