The Crescenta-Cañada Cooperative Nursery School held its traditional Annual Trike-a-Thon on Saturday, April 26, and despite a steady downpour the preschool’s blacktop was alive with joy, cheers and determination as young riders took to their tricycles in support of their school.
In the weeks leading up to the event, students practiced riding laps during outdoor play, picked out their favorite wheels – from speedy low-riders to cozy double-seaters – and helped fundraise for their classrooms. Anticipation built among children and families alike, even as weather forecasts began predicting rain.
Sure enough, Saturday morning brought a steady pour – but it didn’t stop the festivities. Bundled up in raincoats and boots, with tires slick from the weather, preschoolers pedaled through puddles while parents lined the course, cheering with thunderous applause. The energy and enthusiasm rivaled the storm itself.
The school offers a cooperative structure; Crescenta-Cañada Preschool is owned and operated by the families enrolled. Parents take turns working in the classroom alongside teachers, plan events together and create a sense of community that extends far beyond individual families.
“We’re a tight-knit group,” said one parent. “We cheer for every child like they’re our own, and you could really feel that during the Trike-a-Thon. It was just a beautiful, joyful morning – even in the rain.”
The event served not only as a fundraiser but as a celebration of the school’s collaborative spirit, the children’s growing confidence and the shared care that binds this preschool community together. The weather may have been gray, but the Trike-a-Thon was nothing short of bright and memorable.
