Open House Slated

Crescenta-Cañada Cooperative Nursery School – CCNS – is hosting its annual open house on Saturday, Jan. 29th from 9:30 a.m. until noon. Families with preschool aged or soon to be preschool age children are welcome to join director Nita Imm and Michele Reilly for a tour of CCNS, ask questions and speak with other parents first hand about the benefits of a co-operative preschool program.

Enrollment for Fall 2011 begins now for the Busy Bears (Monday/Wednesday/Friday) program for 4 year olds and the Darling Ducks (Tuesday/Thursday) program for children 3 years of age. Both class sizes are between 15 and 20 children with a child ratio of 1:5 with teacher and parent helpers.

CCNS has been teaching and caring for preschool aged children for over 50 years. The goal is to provide rich experiences and opportunities for children to develop sound relationships with their peers while providing a nurturing environment where children can develop good feelings about themselves, their abilities and the world around them.

Although located in La Cañada, CCNS welcomes new students from all surrounding communities in Los Angeles area.

Winter Acorn Bear Coming to Descanso

Descanso Gardens is hosting the Winter Acorn Bear series beginning on Feb. 4 at 10:30 a.m. This four-week version of Descanso’s popular “Toddler Treks With Acorn Bear” includes story time, crafts and a snack. Boy Scout Troop to Visit the Stars

Anyone interested in joining Boy Scout Troop #509 is invited to attend their Glendale Community College planetarium visit scheduled for Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. Bring $5 cash per person. Valley View Preps for Dance

On Friday evening, Jan. 28, Valley View Elementary School is hosting its annual Daddy/Daughter Dinner Dance. Sponsored by the P.T.A., the dance takes place from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. in the Valley View Auditorium.

Phones for Charity

The Monte Vista Elementary School Foundation, in partnership with  Phones 4 Charity, is hosting a Cell Phone Recycling Drive during the month of January. Please bring unused cell phones to Monte Vista Elementary School at 2620 Orange Ave. in La Crescenta. Recycling old cell phones
will help the environment
and invests in our children
by helping the school Foundation raise funds to support Monte Vista Elementary School.

ALG Offering SAT Help

Assistance League of Glendale is offering its biannual SAT seminars to students attending public and private high schools in Glendale and the surrounding communities. Last year nearly 100 students took advantage of these seminars, which are held at 314 E. Harvard St. in Glendale. Teachers are currently teaching at local high schools and are highly qualified.

Two sessions are offered, Mondays/Wednesdays or Tuesdays/Thursdays. They run for four weeks from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Registration forms will be available from high school counselors or from the Thrift Alley, which is located at 314 E. Harvard. It is open 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday – Saturday, closed Tuesday.
