One of my favorite local spots is Villa Terraza, 9955 Sunland Blvd. in Sunland. The Italian restaurant serves generous portions and delicious food (and wine). Seating is available outside on the restaurant’s patio or inside. In addition to regular table seating, inside there are cute little booths that dot the perimeter to ensure privacy. My husband has also held a couple of Christmas parties on its spacious grounds.
The restaurant has undergone several ideations over the years. It was originally opened in the 1930s as a German restaurant – Old Vienna Gardens. Then, in the 1970s, it was once again an Italian restaurant – Villa Cinzano. (My husband actually proposed to me in the parking lot of Villa Cinzano.)
It closed down again before being rebranded and reopening 10 years ago as Villa Terraza. Owner Jorge Valladares is in charge of the popular restaurant and can often be seen carrying plates of food to hungry diners or glasses of wine to thirsty patrons.
It was in fact Valladares who brought in pianist and singer Nancy Daley.
“She sang wth our previous chef,” said Valladares.
The music that Daley performed was quiet and pleasing; she didn’t overdo her performance with volume.
“People like the music,” said Valladares.
Steve and I headed to Villa Terraza on Saturday night to have dinner and were happily surprised to see musician Daley. A special treat was when she brought up fellow musician (and hubby) Bob Daley to sing a couple of numbers. They both added so much to the evening.
Between the plentiful food and Saturday night music, Villa Terraza is a perfect spot for families or for a quiet “date night.”
Villa Terraza is open Wednesday and Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.; closed Monday and Tuesday.
