Eight Finalists Sing for Over $30,000 in Cash Prizes

Since 2016, the Pasadena Vocal Competition has been a guiding force for emerging classical vocalists, awarding over $25,000 in cash prizes annually. Thanks to the generosity of the Barbera Foundation and The Pasadena Area Opera Trust, the

competition is pleased to announce awards totaling over $30,000, including a grand prize of $7,000.

The finals concert will take place on Saturday, March 22 at 7 p.m. in Ramo Auditorium on the campus of California Institute of Technology (Caltech). From a pool of dozens of applicants, the final eight soloists will present three pieces: two

arias from the standard operatic repertoire and one selection from the musical theater songbook. Artists will compete for various awards, including the coveted $7,000 grand prize and the Audience Choice Award. PVC is also announced a new category, Best Aria by a Composer of the African Diaspora, to be awarded based solely on video submission.

Accompanying all performers will be the renowned and critically acclaimed pianist Catherine Miller, Pasadena Vocal Competition’s artistic director.

“We are so pleased to continue our mission of fostering and showcasing exceptional vocal talent through the Pasadena Vocal Competition,” said Miller. “This

year’s new award, sponsored by the Emmy Award winning actor Mr. Courtney B Vance, demonstrates our commitment to education and support of all genres of the operatic repertoire. The caliber of our prestigious professional judges is making the difference in the lives of our young winners. Many go on to appear in opera houses, concert halls, and festivals across the globe.”

PVC artistic advisor is celebrated soprano Jamie Chamberlin Granner who will serve as mistress of ceremonies.

All are invited on March 22 for an evening of exceptional vocal artistry!
