PRETTY LITTLE PRINCESS FASHION SHOW AND TEA
WAW Talent Training and Performing Studios is inviting little girls ages 5-11 to dress up in their fanciest attire for play dates on three Saturdays: May 14, 21, and 28 at the Community Center of La Cañada from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. These special little princesses will learn to walk the runway with poise, participate in “mock” photo shoots, apply play make up, wear high heels and get all dolled up in fancy accessories provided by us. The princesses will also learn to stand up straight, introduce themselves, sit properly and speak up in front of their Royal Court.
Family and friends are invited to the final class on May 28 when they will enjoy the “Pretty Little Princess Fashion Show” while being served tea and sandwiches made by their little princesses.

VHHF HOSTING LUNCHEON, FASHION SHOW
The Women’s Council of Verdugo Hills Hospital Foundation (VHHF) is hosting a luncheon and fashion show on Friday, May 20 at VHH in the Council Room located on the fourth floor lobby. The event begins at 11:30 a.m. and tickets are $35 per person.
The event, titled “Luncheon and Fashion Show on the Red Carpet,” will feature fashions by Holiday Hats and Gowns of Montrose and table favors donated by Merle Norman of Montrose.

TORRES MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
The sixth annual Torres Golf Tournament, held in memory of 2nd. Lt. Andrew Torres, is taking place on Monday, May 16 at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club. The tournament will raise funds toward cancer research at HMRI, Huntington Medical Research Institutes, in Pasadena. Registration begins at 9:45 a.m., a putting contest will be at 10:30 a.m., lunch will be served at 11 a.m. followed by the shotgun tee off at noon. A silent auction and reception will be held at 4:30 p.m. and the awards banquet will take place at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $250 per person, which includes barbecue lunch, awards banquet, plus carts and greens fees.

“THE PREMIERE” COMING TO ALEX
The Glendale Pops Orchestra debuts at the Alex Theatre in Glendale with “The Premiere,” highlights from the upcoming six show season. This musical Pops journey will take the audience through swing, bossa nova, love songs and even a little rock-n-roll. The performance will be led by artistic director and conductor Matt Catingub with a special performance by Kenny Loggins.
All proceeds will go to support Glendale Arts, a non-profit organization charged with managing the historic Alex Theatre, the Glendale Pops Orchestra and coordinating resources for local artists and arts organizations.
VIP and season ticket holders will be treated to pre and post champagne receptions and will have a chance to meet Matt Catingub.

BAUM TO ADDRESS REPUBLICAN CLUB
Geoff Baum, a trustee on the Pasadena City College Board of Trustees, will be the guest speaker at the May monthly dinner meeting of the La Cañada Flintridge Republican Club on Monday, May 16 at Taylor’s Steakhouse at 6:30 p.m.
Baum will provide insights on the current and future of community colleges in America and specifically about Pasadena’s community college. Baum represents the city’s residents on the board.

NOON CONCERTS OPEN TO PUBLIC
Glendale Noon Concerts is a free admission concert series taking place every first and third Wednesday from 12:10-12:40 p.m. in the newly restored chapel and sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Glendale (downtown at Louise & Wilson, no religious affiliation).
On May 18 Calabria Foti will present music from her highly acclaimed CD releases, “A Lovely Way To Spend An Evening” and “When A Woman Loves A Man.” Gleaning much of her material from the Great American Songbook and Broadway show tunes, Foti scats, swings and charms her way into listeners’ hearts. Performing with her husband, jazz trombone virtuoso Bob McChesney, this is an afternoon you will long remember!

DEMS TO HOST ASWARD
The next meeting of the Cañada Crescenta Democratic Club will be held on Sunday, May 15 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the home of Michael Davis and Mary Alice Freeman.
Professor Adnan Asward will discuss the geopolitics of oil and gas. Professor Asward is Professor Emeritus of Industrial & Manufacturing Systems Engineering at the University of Michigan-Dearborn where he served as a founding department chair and as associate dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science.

AAUW MEETING APPROACHING
American Association of University Women, Glendale Branch meets Saturday, May 21 to salute student grant awardees.  Every year AAUW awards grants to high school and college women to further their education. Guest speaker Roxana Rascoe is a former awardee and current partner and chief operations officer for the technology practice within Deloitte Consulting. Rascoe is also involved with the Deloitte’s Women’s Initiative program and will speak to that topic.
