On Friday, Sept. 11, first graders from Lincoln Elementary School gathered for a special family field trip to the Stone Barn Nature Center located at Deukmejian Wilderness Park in Glendale.

Hosted by first grade teachers Elisabeth Donovan, Nicolas James and Morgan Courtney, the after-school outing brought together students, parents and siblings for an afternoon of outdoor exploration and hands-on learning.

Families took part in self-guided tours led by the teachers, discovering the rich history of the historic stone barn and exploring educational displays highlighting local plant species, native wildlife and regional ecology.

During the event, students enjoyed a scenic short hike to the park’s historic 300-year-old Oak Tree. In the nature center’s interactive area, young learners engaged with hands-on wildlife exhibits, learned about the surrounding trail network and gained valuable knowledge about local fire safety.

The field trip offered an engaging way for students and families to connect with nature, build community and celebrate local history together.
