900 block of Town Center Drive in La Cañada Flintridge, deputies responded to the location concerning an attempted robbery. The victim reported he was sitting at a table inside the business talking on the phone; his back was to the entrance to the business. He was wearing a gold chain necklace with a “Virgin Mary” pendent around his neck and outside his shirt. While the victim was talking on the phone the suspect ran up to him from behind and grabbed the necklace. The suspect forcefully pulled at the necklace three times in an attempt to take the necklace from the victim. The suspect pulled on the necklace with such force it startled the victim and caused the necklace to wrap tightly around his neck, strangling him. The victim turned toward the suspect who ran out of the business. 

The suspect was described as a male Hispanic about 5’5” tall, thin build, wearing a black hoodie, dark colored pants and a black face covering. The victim and his girlfriend searched for the suspect but was unable to locate him. 

The incident occurred at 9:05 p.m. 

Aug. 6

4700 block of Sunset Avenue in La Crescenta, a woman reported that she had received a phone call from a number she did not recognize. The call from the unknown caller occurred several times before she finally answered the call. The person on the other end of the phone call stated s/he was a representative [suspect]  from “Citibank.” The suspect told the woman s/he was calling her regarding fraudulent charges on her bank account. The suspect sent her a mobile link to verify her identity. She opened the mobile link, which took her to a webpage where she observed a transfer of funds that came from her Citibank account. She said she had not shared her personal information or bank information with anyone. She had not authorized any transfer of funds either. She reached out to Citibank and was working on closing her account. 

The theft by false pretense occurred at 12 p.m.

2500 block of Whittier Drive in La Crescenta, deputies responded to a call concerning a possible burglary. The call stated that a passerby observed the security alarm going off and the front door of the location open. The homeowner [victim] observed through his security camera two male adults leaving his home with items in their hands. 

The informant [passerby] stated he had heard a loud security alarm coming from the residence and noticed the front door open. He called into the home to see if anyone was home but no one responded. The informant then called 9-1-1. The deputy contacted the resident of the home who told him he saw on his security camera two individuals, described as White males, exiting his home while holding several items. Suspect No. 1 was described as a White male adult, wearing a blue hat, gray shirt and jeans. He walked to the front of the residence carrying an orange bag and a backpack. The suspect was then seen leaving the home and the informant was then seen walking to the front of the residence. Although the resident first reported seeing two adults, when looking closer there was only one suspect and one informant seen. 

The burglary occurred between 4:22 p.m. and 4:40 p.m.
