Halloween Fun Run – It’s Coming!

Take your Halloween costume for a test spin a week from Saturday at the Chamber’s Halloween Fun Run. Our annual 5K Run/Walk is a great opportunity to get out in the fresh air with your friends and family and walk, jog or run your fastest along the foothills of La Crescenta. The five-kilometer route starts at Two Strike Park on Rosemont Avenue, goes west along Orange Avenue, then circles around so you can see your fellow participants as you head back to the park.

As usual, the good people from Taix Extreme Boot Camp will lead the pre-run warm-ups at 7:45 a.m. and then help get the race started. We’ll also have a Pumpkin Fun Run for the little ones, a short one-mile jog around the perimeter of Two Strike Park. Entry for the Pumpkin Fun Run is free (or $10 with event T-shirt). Entry fee for the 5K is $25 until 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20 and $35 the day of the race.

Did you know that $5 of your entry goes to the school or organization of your choice? Plus, the school with the highest percentage of participants wins an extra $100 and possession of the Chamber Cup! Last year Lincoln Elementary won the honor. They’re doing well again this year with 10 participants as of last Tuesday. As of the same date, Rosemont is at 24, Dunsmore has four, CVHS has seven, Fremont has six, Mountain Avenue has two, La Crescenta Elementary has five, LCHS has three and Palm Crest has three participants signed up. Come on schools – show us what you got!

Many have already registered for the Run/Walk. We expect many more the day of the race. Why not make it easy on yourself and pre-register? Just go to www.crescentavalleychamber.org/5k no later than 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20. We’ll be sure to have your race bib ready and waiting for you on Saturday morning at the “Pre-Registered” table. Maybe you’re a last-minute kind of person. That’s fine, just show up at Two Strike (5107 Rosemont Ave.) at 7 a.m. and we’ll get you all signed up.

The race is timed and medals will be awarded to 30 lucky winners. We’ll have male and female first and second place winners in seven different age groups, plus we’ll honor the top runners overall, male and female. Run With Us, the premier athletic shoe store in Pasadena, will also be on hand with a grand prize of free running shoes to the two top winners (value: $150 each).

So tie on your superhero cape, don a funny hat or slip on some silly glasses and come on down to the Halloween Fun Run on Saturday, Oct. 21 at Two Strike Park.

Join us for a ribbon cutting at the newly renovated La Crescenta Woman’s Club at 4004 La Crescenta Ave. on Wednesday, Oct. 18 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
