So Long to a Short Summer

Hello, CV Weekly readers! September is here and brings with it not only an official end to summer but also the beginning of another busy event season!

First up is the Chamber’s Annual 9/11 Remembrance Motorcade to honor the men and women who lost their lives in the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. The procession, as always, will stage in the Ralphs parking lot at the corner of Foothill Boulevard and Rosemont Avenue and departs at 8:45 a.m. The route will zigzag through town and will pass two local sheriff stations, five fire stations and 11 local schools. Once again this year, we will have participation from the CV Sheriff’s Station, Glendale PD and CHP motorcycle officers. In the evening there will be a special ceremony at 5:30 p.m. at Bob Smith Toyota, 3333 Foothill Blvd., honoring first responders.

The very next day, Thursday, Sept. 12, the CV Chamber will be holding our September business mixer at your very own CV Weekly headquarters (3800 La Crescenta Ave. at Honolulu Avenue)! We’re very excited about this mixer because it a dual chamber mixer with the Montrose Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce. Also, this month’s mixer will have a Hawaiian theme so don your best Hawaiian shirts and prepare to get “leid.”

The following Wednesday, Sept. 18, we will be holding our Annual Foothills Community Business Expo, which is a collaboration between the CV Chamber, the Montrose Verdugo City Chamber as well as the La Cañada Flintridge Chamber. We will be at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the conference room on the fourth floor.

The main difference this year is that the annual shredding event will not be on the same day. Shredding will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12 at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital. Expo exhibitor space is still available and forms can be found in the chamber office as well as on the chamber website.

At the end of September we will hold our Annual 5K Fun Run. This year’s race will be on Saturday, Sept. 28 at CV Park. Check-in begins at 7 a.m. with a warm-up set to begin at 7:45 a.m. led by Linda Taix and her wonderful trainers from Taix Workout Studio and Extreme Boot Camp. We will be awarding a medal to the top male and female finishers in each of seven age categories. Prepaid entry is $30 or $35 the day of the race and includes a complimentary T-shirt. Shirts are subject to availability on the day of the race.

We are very excited to announce our very first CV Chamber dine-out night on Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Alissa’s Ocean View Bar and Grill!  Wednesdays happen to be Ocean View’s “Wine Wednesdays,” which means all bottles of wine are half price! All you need to do to show your support is place your receipt in the labeled container on the checkout counter and Alissa’s will donate 20% of your order (excluding alcohol and gratuity) to the Chamber for community support activities. Alissa’s Ocean View is located at 3826 Ocean View Blvd., at the corner of Florencita Drive, in Montrose.
