Birdies, eagles, possibly some bogeys, and a slight breeze brought perfect weather for the CV Chamber Scholarship Golf Tournament held on June 27 at Scholl Canyon Golf Course. The day started with a complimentary breakfast courtesy of Starbucks La Cañada and finished with a catered lunch of steak and salmon from Zeke’s in Montrose.

We had two hole-in-one contests sponsored by Bob Smith Toyota and Montrose Travel. With the possibility of thirst between holes, a refreshment cart provided by Foothill Partners of John Aaroe Group (who won the tournament), arranged by Tom Flanagan, drove around providing assistance. Our event sponsor was Crescenta-Cañada Pet Hospital, who even brought treats.

Our four scholarship recipients (John Blood, Nicholas Castellana, Jessica Gabor and Molly Strawn) attended and, along with receiving scholarship money from the chamber, were surprised by Assemblyman Mike Gatto who presented matching funds from the Tuition Magician Organization. Also there congratulating the students from GUSD was Dr. Armina Gharpetian.

Several of the holes offered some fun surprises; trophies were given out after lunch, along with the many raffle items that included a 40” TV. We want to thank our sponsors for making this possible: Supervisor Michael Antonovich, 7 Stop Pizza, Andy’s Transfer and Storage, Caspian Services, Chris Aristo-State Farm, Micronics Training, Outlook Newspaper, Softline Solutions, Ken & Pat Biermann, Bruce’s Automotive,  CV Weekly, Eden Auto Groom, Extreme Boot Camp, J R Hardware Sash & Door, Sport Clips and Taix Workout Studio.

The golf committee, headed by Leonard Ghazarian and assisted by Steve Pierce, Mike Riley, Calvin Chock and Chris Aristo, are to be commended for their extra efforts. Let us not forget the “designated hole” watchers who kept them all honest: Bobbi Chock, Lala Ghazarian, Robin Goldsworthy, Jessica Speas and Eleanor Wacker and of course the Prom Plus Club kids.

We would like to welcome our newest chamber member Maureen Palacios of Once Upon a Time Bookstore, 2207 Honolulu Ave., Montrose. Celebrating their 48th year in the community, Once Upon a Time has several special events planned and now offers an online store for your convenience. Visit or give them a call at (818) 248-9668.

Our other newest member is Sport Clips, owned by Adam Ralphs and located at 890 Town Center Drive in La Cañada. The Sport Clips experience includes watching sports on TV (naturally), a relaxing neck rub and shoulder massage, legendary steamed towel treatment and a great haircut. Sport Clips can be reached at (818) 952-2356.

Our July business mixer will be hosted by Chris Aristo of State Farm Insurance at 2409 Honolulu Ave., Montrose on Wednesday, July 9 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Our special membership drawing for $100 will take place, but the winner needs to be present.

From all of us at CV Chamber, we wish you a great and safe 4th of July.
