 Happy Birthday, Courtney!

About this time last year you could have been sitting in the circle in front of Avignone’s, enjoying your Paradis ice cream and sharing a seat with Courtney Cox and the stars of her new movie “Just Before I Go.” Courtney, who just celebrated her 50th birthday, chose the Montrose Shopping Park for her directorial debut, spending a couple of days here filming, shopping and hanging out on Honolulu Avenue. The film recently opened at the Tribeca Film Festival and the trailer is now online showing the inside of Avignone’s in great detail. Kim Brennan, Avignone’s likeable manager, said the place was literally packed with film folks including Seann William Scott who played Bo Duke in “Dukes of Hazzard,” was in “American Pie” and the world famous “Dude, Where’s My Car?” (had to get that one in!) with Ashton Kutcher. From what I hear, Courtney never takes pictures. This was later confirmed by a longtime publicist for Los Angeles Magazine who shops in town. Apparently the industry folks are well aware of this. It makes me all the more amazed that she took this shot, even having her assistant stop what she was doing and take the time to “pose” us in the right light. Guess we’re “Friends” now!

The Montrose Shopping Park will be featured in other movies coming out this year. Clint Eastwood could be seen sitting on a lawn chair on Honolulu Avenue as he was directing his latest movie, “Jersey Boys” featuring scenes filmed inside Montrose Bowl. The “Murder of a Cat” cast Nikki Reed, Greg Kinnear, J.K. Simmons and Blythe Danner were here for several days filming under the direction of Gillian Greene, daughter of Lorne, and her famous husband “Spider Man” and “Oz” director Sam Raimi. It’s fun to shop & dine in the Montrose Shopping Park where the stars work.
