Get Out the Vote! Vote Tuesday, June 3!

The City of Glendale, along with the entire state of California, is going to the polls on June 3. The Glendale City Council voted to hold a special municipal election consolidated with the state primary, which will be conducted by the county of Los Angeles, on June 3. Glendale citizens will vote to fill one city council seat. Vying for the single seat are Rick Barnes – business owner/realtor; Mike Mohill – retired businessman; Chahe Keuroghelian – small business manager; Paula Devine – retired teacher; and Vartan Gharpetian – business owner. Glendale citizens will also have the opportunity to vote for a charter amendment named Measure G.

If approved, this measure would establish that, if a city council vacancy occurs, a temporary appointment is made to fill the vacant position until the next regularly scheduled city council election. It would allow council members appointed to fill council vacancies to finish out the full term of the council member they are replacing. Currently, city law demands that, after a vacancy is filled by appointment, a special election for the council position in question must take place on the very next possible special election date, even if this requires holding an election for the exclusive purpose of electing a council member. Remember to please get out and vote!

Do you want to help the community get the word out about the June 3 election? Then we need your help if you live in the 91214 zip code and are City of Glendale residents. A group of civic-minded citizens, in conjunction with the City Clerk’s office, has banded together to put up 10,000 door hangers on the homes in the Far North Glendale area to encourage everyone to vote. The voting counts were down in that area in the last election and they are hoping to encourage more people to vote. If you can help, please contact the Montrose Chamber office and we will put you in contact with the organizers. They would really appreciate your help.

This weekend is the 31st Annual Montrose Arts & Crafts Festival sponsored by the Montrose Shopping Park Association. It will be taking place in the 2200, 2300 and 2400 blocks of Honolulu Avenue. More than 300 fine artists, crafters, food vendors, California Certified farmers, musicians and entertainers will be on hand. There will be handmade crafts, jewelry, fine art, textiles, flowers and much more. The event will have an expanded international food court with plenty of seating, live entertainment and a children’s activity area. And, of course, it’s also a great opportunity to shop in Montrose.
