Getting Ready for Fun at the Fair

The Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce’s annual HomeTown Country Fair is coming your way!

We have it all. Arts, crafts, exhibitors, games, entertainment, food, car show, carnival, parade, pie eating contest and a lot of fun.

For those who like animals, though there are no pig races there are plenty of adoptable animals on hand for petting or, of course, adopting. Crescenta Valley Park is also the future location of a dog park, scheduled to open this year.

Thrill seekers? Action adventures await you with the Kemsley Carnival, which will be on the midway with plenty of rides to reach your highest expectations, fastest encounters, and a merry-go-round with non-betting horse racing. They also offer kiddie rides. Need more? Try the rock climbing wall.

Crafters/exhibits? We have many, from informational to gadgets, thingamabobs and doodads.

Entertainment? There’s live music, singers and dancers performing continuously on two stages from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Fords, Chevys, Lincolns and Cadillacs – A car show to display very fine vehicles featuring folding tops, drag plates, Fencer’s masks, hoods (an American term for an engine cover), and ’50s land yachts. Trophies awarded.

Dog parade at 2 p.m. You don’t need to dress or look alike to enter man and woman’s best friend. Entry cost is “I love my dog” and proud to display their devotion. Prizes awarded.

Food? Well of course! Hot dogs, hamburgers, cotton candy (made with lotsa sugar), pop corn and as an added attraction, barbecue Korean entrees. A new dessert is set to debut: deep fried Snicker bars. Students: Make money for your school by bringing the coupon sent out in Thursday folders.

Pie eating contest at 11:30 a.m. Life is too short, eat dessert first!
