Glendale Healthy Start, a program within Student Support Services of the Glendale Unified School District, prepared 100 food baskets, which included a $30 Vons’ gift card, that were distributed to families for Thanksgiving. The mission of Glendale Healthy Start is to assist families in need.

The food baskets consisted of an assortment of cereal, beans, soup, sweet corn, stuffing, rice, pasta, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, apple sauce, tomato sauce, canned fruit, green beans, gravy, cake mix and Jello. These items were donated to the GUSD food pantry by the district’s PTAs. Donations were received from all GUSD school sites. Donations were also received by the Las Caritas group, which each month donates $350 worth of groceries. Las Caritas is an auxiliary of the Assistance League of Glendale. It boasts 26 active members, many of whom are employed in the business world and in education. Las Caritas also supplied 200 pairs of socks and five blankets to children in November.
