The Cañada Auxiliary of Professionals (CAP), an auxiliary of Action League of the Foothills (ALF), has been serving the community through philanthropic and volunteer activities for more than three decades.

This year, CAP celebrates the 35th anniversary of its Cappy Bears program, one of the organization’s first philanthropic efforts. The program began in 1991 with a simple goal: to provide comfort to children experiencing trauma. CAP members originally provided Cappy Bears to USC Verdugo Hills Hospital and the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station, where the bears offered children a comforting companion during difficult and often frightening circumstances.

For 35 years, the program has continued to bring comfort to children in their time of need. Today, CAP provides 50 Cappy Bears each month to USC Verdugo Hills Hospital for use in its Emergency Room. During the 2025–26 school year, CAP provided a total of 550 bears to the hospital, helping offer comfort and reassurance to children receiving emergency care.

The Cappy Bears program represents CAP’s longstanding commitment to hands-on community service and the belief that even a simple gesture can make a meaningful difference. What began in 1991 as an effort to comfort children in difficult circumstances has grown into a 35-year tradition of service, supported by generations of CAP members and the community. Through Cappy Bears, CAP continues to give children a source of comfort and reassurance during some of their most difficult moments.

At CAP’s September meeting, CAP celebrated this milestone with a
special Cappy Bear Picnic, bringing members together to recognize 35 years of
the program and the many children and families it has touched through the
years.

CAP welcomes new members throughout the year and encourages professionals interested in community service to learn more about joining the organization.
