On Sept. 21, members of the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada La Crescenta-AM, wearing masks and practicing social distancing, met at a member’s backyard for the annual budget meeting. The board voted to support a request from Lynn McGinnis, president of the Verdugo Hill Memorial Hall and current judge advocate of Verdugo Hills Post 288 American Legion. The Hall was built in 1925 and following the 1934 flood was relocated in 1935 to its present site. The building has become a life force in the foothills supporting many youth groups, school groups and non-profit groups. All youth groups use the hall rent-free.

The Hall now needs to modernize its parking lot to eliminate safety issues … a very expensive endeavor. The Kiwanis Club of La Cañada La Crescenta-AM presented a check for $3,000 to help one, help many. A GoFundMe account (https://www.gofundme.com/f/AmericanLegionHallLC) has also been established for those who would like to help.

The Kiwanis Club of La Cañada La Crescenta-AM is a service club to help those in need. The Club currently meets on Zoom every Wednesday morning at 8 a.m. Those interested in visiting the Club can email Sydni Taylor at sydnitaylor@kw.com.
