The recent roof repair of the La Crescenta Woman’s Clubhouse and extensive tree maintenance depleted the cash reserves of the La Crescenta Woman’s Club. And the bills kept coming. Adding insult to injury, the members’ 2020 Spring Fashion Show had to be canceled due to COVID-19. The annual fashion show raises funds to support the Club’s philanthropic projects. This year’s fashion show turned into an online auction that Club President Marianne Jennings dubbed a “Gift Basket Fundraiser.”

Over 80 themed baskets went online, available to anyone with a penchant for community donations such as restaurant gift certificates, Trader Joe’s delicacies, trips to Disneyland and tickets to shows. Favorites were passes to Flappers Comedy Club in Burbank. This is a good time to laugh.

Auction co-chairs Cindy Charles and Debbie Cant, both of La Crescenta, did double-duty acquiring the auction items and passing them out on Saturday, Sept. 26 to those who placed the winning bids. The Clubhouse parking lot was busy for most of the morning as auction winners stuffed their car trunks full of the goodies.

Auction proceeds of $4,300 are earmarked for scholarships for deserving seniors at Glendale Unified School District high schools.
