Calling all runners! It’s time to start lacing up your running shoes, stretching your muscles and marking your calendars for the 19th Annual Thanksgiving Day 5K Run and Food Drive, hosted by the Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge. This 5K Run/Walk and one mile Kids Run has been a local tradition and a community favorite with families, athletes, and community supporters of all types for more than a decade. The run will take place on Thursday morning, Nov. 22 and start at 8:30 a.m. at Memorial Park in La Cañada. Register at www.ThanksgivingDayRun.eventbrite.com.
The run is the major fundraiser for the community center as well as an opportunity to support a worthy cause, squeeze in a workout and donate non-perishable food to those in need. Formerly known as The Run for the Hungry, the event has changed its name to Thanksgiving Day Run and Food Drive to more accurately reflect the community center’s fundraising efforts. Event proceeds will be used to support the year-round programs and services the community center offers.
In conjunction with the run, the community center will partner with the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Department for this year’s food drive during the weeks that lead up to the run. In past years, donations have exceeded 10,000 cans and this year the center hopes to have the biggest food drive in La Cañada history.
