Adventist Health Glendale Named Among the Best in the Region

Adventist Health Glendale has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the Best Hospitals for 2019-20, ranking 10 out of the 130-plus hospitals in the Los Angeles metro area, which includes Los Angeles and Orange counties, and 17 out of the 400-plus hospitals in California.

Each year, U.S. News rates nearly 5,000 hospitals across the country. The annual Best Hospitals rankings and ratings, now in its 30th year, are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or for common elective procedures.

Adventist Health Glendale was named high performing in six of the 16 adult specialty care rankings for its excellence in gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics and urology, and also in four of the nine common adult procedures and conditions rankings in the areas of COPD, colon cancer surgery, heart failure and knee replacement. Additionally, the medical center ranked No. 45 nationally in diabetes and endocrinology.

“Adventist Health Glendale has a strong track record of providing high-quality patient care, as made evident by this recognition,” said Alice Issai, MBA, president of Adventist Health Glendale. “To be voted among the best regional hospitals by U.S. News & World Report is an honor! This is no small accomplishment. Our ranking illustrates our commitment to those we serve in our communities.

“I give praise and thanks to our remarkable team of talented physicians and associates for their dedication to excellence and for working tirelessly to make sure every aspect of safe, quality care is always top priority. I look forward to continuing to lead Adventist Health Glendale in expanding patient safety in all areas of our medical center. Together, we are living the Adventist Health mission to inspire health, wholeness and hope in our communities.”

For the 2019-20 rankings and ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 25 specialties, procedures and conditions. In the 16 specialty areas, 165 hospitals were ranked in at least one specialty. In rankings by state and metro area, U.S. News recognized hospitals as high performing across multiple areas of care.

“For 30 years, U.S. News has strived to make hospital quality more transparent to healthcare consumers nationwide,” said Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News. “By providing the most comprehensive data available on nearly every hospital across the United States, we give patients, families and physicians information to support their search for the best care across a range of procedures, conditions and specialties.”

The U.S. News Best Hospitals methodologies in most areas of care are based largely on objective measures such as risk-adjusted survival and discharge-to-home rates, volume, and quality of nursing, among other care-related indicators.

Best Hospitals was produced by U.S. News with RTI International, a leading research organization based in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.
