ASTER and Senior Activities! www.TheAster.org

By Dr. Mark Anthony

The most common question I get from people when they find out that I am on the board of directors at ASTER is: “What is ASTER and what does it do?” The simple answer is: We help seniors and their caregivers connect to as many resources, events, discounts and as much information as possible.

One of our most popular events is our quarterly speaker series that includes free food, prizes, interesting exhibitors, informative speakers and an entertaining master of ceremonies (me). ASTER (Assisting Seniors Through Enhanced Resources) has been helping foothill seniors for over four years. Our next event is soon – Thursday, May 29 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Holy Redeemer Church in Montrose. Our topic is Staying Safe at Home.

Did you know that May is National Older Americans Month? This ASTER talk, and another one for seniors at the Verdugo Hills YMCA as part of its Balance and Thrive program, are all part of the “Safe Today, Healthy Tomorrow” theme for National Older Americans Month 2014. The YMCA talk is on Tuesday, May 27 from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. It will also include free yummy food and sign-ups for no charge balance assessments by the Y wellness coaches. The Y talk will also be entertaining as well as educational. You will leave the talk dancing, prepared to create a life where movement is fun again and ready to thrive! The Y talk is guaranteed to please. (I can promise that since it turns out that I will be the speaker!)

Come to both talks! Learn! Laugh! Bring a friend! The more the merrier!
