Samantha Alequin of La Cañada Flintridge was initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at California State University, Los Angeles. Kelli Loritsch of La Crescenta was initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at University of the Pacific. Ashley DiBacco of Shadow Hills, Tiana Le of La Cañada and Andrea Wolpert of Tujunga were initiated at California State University, Long Beach.

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi is the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society.

These residents are among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10% of seniors and 7.5% of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10% of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.

Mustapha Khawaja, son of Brenda Gant of La Crescenta and Glendale, received his B.S. from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) in Daytona Beach, Florida. Khawaja majored in aerospace engineering with a business minor and was on the dean’s list. Encouraged by his internship at JPL, Khawaja will pursue his Master of Science degree in unmanned & autonomous systems engineering.

ERAU is the largest, fully accredited university system specializing in aviation and aerospace and has trained countless commercial and military pilots as well as astronauts and pioneers in the air and space fields.
