The Adventist Health Glendale Foundation announced that the medical center’s main auditorium is being named in honor of Dr. Ronald S. and Mrs. Georgiana Wu. The naming recognizes the couple’s long-time service to the hospital and community, which spans more than five decades.
“It’s so fitting to have Dr. Wu’s and Georgiana’s name on the wall of this very precious space that we have for our community,” said hospital President Alice Issai.
“All of our different communities – associates and physicians, businesses, residents and local leaders, civic and non-profit organizations – attend events in our auditorium,” added Foundation President Irene Bourdon. “Dr. and Mrs. Wu have been of service to so many families, patients and healthcare providers. Their names displayed at the hospital will be recognized by many thousands of people.”
In a joint statement, the Wu’s responded, “The auditorium is an important place for people to gather, learn and celebrate special occasions. This is where doctors meet for continuing education, and we want them to have the best surroundings and equipment.”
Formal recognition of Dr. and Mrs. Wu will be announced by the Foundation later this year.
Dr. Wu, an obstetrician widely known for helping women with difficult pregnancies, retired from private practice in 2017. During his career, he was involved in the delivery of an estimated 20,000 babies.
Georgiana has performed an important supporting role at the hospital, twice serving as president of the Guild and as a member of the hospital’s board of directors, while also working on multiple fundraising campaigns to enhance patient care. She continues to be active as both a Guild and Foundation board member.
Dr. Wu, who graduated from medical school at Loma Linda University, joined Adventist Health Glendale’s medical staff in 1972. He was one of few physicians in Southern California who specialized in vaginal-breech deliveries when the baby is not positioned head first. His patients came from throughout the U.S. and as far away as China and India.
Reflecting on his career, Dr. Wu said, “I loved delivering babies and seeing the joy and the love and happiness of seeing a new family. That is so fulfilling.”
Dr. and Mrs. Wu reside in Glendale. They have two grown daughters and one granddaughter.
