Sopranos, Second Sopranos and Altos: Come One, Come All

Ki Park

Local ladies interested in adding harmony to their life, enhancing their memory and making new friends are encouraged to join the Verdugo Hills Women’s Chorus (VHWC). This group, which has been referred to as “The Friendliest Group in Town,” is looking for new members to share that camaraderie.

Currently rehearsing at St. Luke’s of the Mountains Church (2563 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta) under the direction of Ki Park, members are looking forward to welcoming new singers to their chorus. Park is a collaborative pianist who has worked with classical singers, instrumentalists and choruses throughout Los Angeles community. In 2016, her passion for making music with singers led her to her current role as music director. She began her journey with VHWC in August 2018. Park teaches appropriate singing techniques for her students to achieve harmony among members in chorus.

VHWC began in the 1950s as part of the PTA Mothersingers under the direction of Betty McGaughey, who founded the group and remained their director until her retirement in 1999. It was at that time Sharon Schlarb became the director and remained so until 2018.

VHWC invites women who like to sing to come out on Monday mornings at 9:30 a.m. to St. Luke’s of the Mountains Church where they will hear music from Broadway tunes to jazz and even rock and roll. No auditions are required – just a desire to sing with friends. Rehearsal is over at 11:30 a.m. while there is still time for lunch.
