Sunland-Tujunga Prepares for Relay

Volunteers for the American Cancer Society (ACS) are urging residents in the Sunland, Tujunga, Shadow Hills and Lakeview Terrace areas to join the second annual “Relay For Life” on April 9 and April 10 at Verdugo Hills High School.

Relay is the ACS’s signature fundraiser event. Folks can form their own teams or join an existing team. Each Team is to have a member walking, running or dancing on the track around the Verdugo Hills High School’s football field for the duration of the 24-hour event. Relay participants can pitch a tent and stay overnight. There is no admission fee, however participants may want to bring cash as every team will be having activities to raise awareness and funds to help the people in the community continue their fight against cancer.

The Relay starts 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 9 with the cancer survivors and their caretakers leading the first lap. Among the activities are a Kids Corner to entertain the kids of all ages; entertainment including local band “Living in July” at 10 a.m.; a performance by a group of young talented musicians from Mt. Gleason; Allison Conant’s DeeJays will provide music at 12 p.m.; plus more.
