New Members March-ing In

Hello, CV Weekly readers! The Crescenta Valley Chamber is proud to welcome our newest members!

Introducing Shabani Dental. Dr. Shabani opened her practice in La Crescenta one year ago, in March 2018. She is a graduate of Glendale High School who then went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from UC Irvine. After graduating from Irvine she attended Boston University School of Medicine where she earned her master’s degree and she earned her doctorate in dentistry from New York University College of Dentistry. Dr. Shabani always enjoyed math and science in school and was also very creative. Dentistry was a clear career choice for her because it is the perfect blend of creativity and science. You can tell that Dr. Shabani is committed to her craft by her answer about her free time. I asked her when she isn’t taking care of her patients and building her practice what does she enjoy doing. Her answer was exercising, which wouldn’t come as a surprise from a healthcare professional. But her reason was that dentistry is physically challenging and she likes to exercise because it allows her to take even better care of her patients and to ensure that she can practice dentistry for years to come. Shabani Dental is located at 2535 Foothill Blvd. Unit #203, La Crescenta. Shabani Dental can be reached by phone at (818) 600-4012, through the website https://shabanidental.com/ or via email appointments@shabanidental.com.

Next we would like to introduce Petra Marin of Union Jack’s Tea. Petra worked in the entertainment industry until she was on hiatus a few years ago.  Remembering that her dad always had a cup of medicinal tea at night, she got a job at Whole Foods as an associate manager of the tea department. She credits Whole Foods with teaching her the skills needed to run her own business and for cultivating her knowledge of tea. Petra is now the president of Union Jack’s Tea and the creator of her own brand. She got her start at farmers’ markets around the Southern California area and has become a mainstay at the Montrose Harvest Market. She says that Montrose is by far her favorite market because the locals buy tea for themselves because they enjoy it and they like to know who and where their tea comes from.  This is a stark contrast from other markets where people were more interested in tea for gifting purposes. This April will mark two years for Petra at Union Jack’s; she has taken that time to build a business infrastructure and gather a team around her that works seamlessly and shares similar vision. One goal of Union Jack’s Tea is to provide as much tea and merchandise as possible from female-owned businesses. For Petra, opening a storefront is extremely special because from day one it has been about pursuing her passion and it’s a labor of love. Eventually she would love to have a space where she can create delicious one-of-a-kind tea lattes for her guests. For now, it’s a much welcomed first step to offer retail merchandise and loose leaf as well as bottled teas to guests with some cozy couches for them to sit on and enjoy. Union Jack’s can be found at 3610½ Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta and on the web at https://jackstea.com/. You can reach Petra at (818) 369-7191 or at petra@jackstea.com.
