Local resident Dr. Joe Puglia, a favorite speaker at meetings of the Don José Verdugo Chapter, National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, visited the DAR again, this time to promote his published book, “The Girl With The Purple Ribbon.”

Puglia, a Marine Corps veteran, wrote this book combining the stories of friendship, love and war set during the divisive and tumultuous times of the Vietnam War.

The Don José Verdugo Chapter promotes Constitution Week; participates in the local Memorial Day parade; supports veterans groups and local outstanding school students with monetary awards and recognition.

DAR membership is open to all women age 18 and over who can prove lineal descent from an ancestor who provided aid during the American Independence effort. DAR principles are to perpetuate the memory and spirit of men and women who fought for and achieved American independence and to preserve historical landmarks, documents, relics and service records of Revolutionary soldiers and patriots.
