In celebration of 50 years of philanthropy, the La Cañada Junior Women’s Club will hold its annual gala fundraiser entitled “A Night at the Troubadour” on Friday, March 6 at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club, 5500 Godbey Drive, from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The gala will benefit Mending Kids of Glendale, which provides free life-saving surgical care to sick children worldwide by deploying medical teams and educating communities to become medically self-sustaining.
Reminiscent of the era when the Juniors were first established, the LCF Country Club will be transformed into a ’70s nightclub experience as a tribute to the founding members, deemed “The Originals” when local Juniors’ founder, Jane Napier Neely, was at the helm.
Guests are invited to “remember when rock was young” and go back to yesteryear when Elton John made his U.S. debut and where appearances were made by such music legends as Billy Joel, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon, James Taylor and Carole King. Included is Steve Martin, who played his banjo to a rapturous crowd. And you never knew who would drop by whether John Lennon, Linda Ronstadt, Cat Stevens, Van Morrison, the Pointer Sisters or Stevie Nicks who came to watch as new musical superstars were born.
Tickets to the gala are $100 per person and include hors d’oeuvres, dinner buffet, open bar, signature cocktail, valet parking and photo booth. Music by DJ Services and his three-screen Open Mic Karaoke will encourage people to rock on with the suggested attire to come as your favorite ’70s rock icon. The festivities will boast a live auction, opportunity drawings and will feature a wine toss and Wheel of Fortune games.
